Atifa Hasham
Atifa Hasham is the Global Feminist Link Love Columnist for Gender Across Borders. She is a French Immersion Co-op student studying International Development and Globalization at the University of Ottawa, in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. Born in Vancouver, British Columbia, she moved to Toronto in 1999 where she attended high school at Victoria Park C.I. and Sir John A. Macdonald C. I. During her time at Sir John. A Macdonald, moved by her passion and devotion for international issues, she joined the school’s philanthropy council, which, through active fundraising efforts succeeded in building a medical facility in Kenya. She has participated in the renowned J’Explore language exchange program this past summer in order to improve her understanding of French Canadian culture and language.
When she is not studying, Atifa is often found in her university’s music rooms, playing the piano, or volunteering within her community in Canada’s capital city, where she has recently completed a term with the Aga Khan Education Board. An avid fan of literature, Atifa spends her a lot of her time reading novels and poetry. She is also an amateur writer, and hopes one day to publish a novel. For the time being, she uploads her original work onto a shared BlogSpot with her cousin, and has had a poem published in the St. Margaret’s Hospital Wing’s of Hope Journal.
