Note: This call for social media internship applications has now closed. Please do not apply for this internship.

Have you ever wanted to work for an international gender justice organization? Here’s your chance! Gender Across Borders (GAB) is seeking a talented person as a Social Media Intern to contribute to our growing dynamic organization. GAB is an international feminist community where issues of gender, race, sexuality, and class are discussed and critically examined. We embrace people of all backgrounds to come together to voice and progress positive gender relations worldwide.

We are looking for candidates available for Winter and Spring 2012 for six months—starting at the beginning of February 2012 to the end of June 2012. We strongly encourage people of color and from outside of North America to apply for this position. (**Note: You can absolutely apply for this job if you live in a country other than the United States. In fact, we highly encourage it!)

Position Responsibilities:

  • Work with the Executive Editor to update daily the Twitter, Tumblr, and Facebook feeds.
  • Follow international gender justice news daily, and post articles on GAB social media feeds where relevant.
  • Respond and interact with GAB readers and followers on Twitter, Tumblr, and Facebook.
  • Participate in Twitter events, like the weekly #sheparty hosted by the Women’s Media Center.
  • You may write for GAB on a topic or field of interest in the realm of global gender justice, but this is not required.

Qualifications:

  • Independent, hard-working, organized, and experienced with a background or strong interest in the feminism and women’s rights.
  • Must have previous social media experience with Twitter, Tumblr, and Facebook.
  • Excellent writing and communication skills.
  • Knowledge of blogging is not mandatory, but highly recommended.
  • Must commit to six hours per week for six months.
  • Interns may extend their internship beyond six months if performance is excellent. Successful work could lead to a permanent position at GAB.
  • Ability to take initiative and work independently.
  • Responsible and reliable.
  • Must be at least eighteen years old; everyone over the age of 18 is welcome to apply!
  • This is a virtual internship. You must have a good connection to the internet and access to a computer.

Salary:

Internship positions are unpaid (in fact, all positions at GAB are unpaid—this is a “side” job that we do).

Apply To:

For consideration, please email a cover letter, a current resume, link(s) to your Twitter/Facebook/Tumblr page(s), a brief writing sample relating to gender, and/or feminism (1-5 pages), and two references (letters of recommendation are not necessary) to Emily Heroy at emily@genderacrossborders with “Social Media Intern Application: Winter & Spring 2012” in the subject line (Please DO NOT send your application to info@genderacrossborders.com, as your application may not be processed correctly). The deadline for this application is Saturday, January 28, 2012 by 10pm PST.
