development internship interns

Calling all global feminists interested in development! Gender Across Borders is looking for a talented Development Intern to join our growing, dynamic organization. GAB is an international feminist community where issues of gender, race, sexuality, and class are discussed and critically examined. We embrace people of all backgrounds to come together to voice and progress positive gender relations worldwide.

The primary goal of this volunteer position is to research a long-term fundraising model; for example, how other [feminist] blogs raise money, how other blogs distribute money, and what grants to apply for, etc.

Ideal candidates should have a basic understanding of fundraising, marketing, and/or advertisement. All candidates must be able to meet deadlines and possess strong organizational and problem-solving skills. We are looking for candidates available for the Winter of 2011 for six months—starting at the end of January to the end of July 2011. Start and end dates are flexible.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Research a long-term fundraising model.
  • Research funding prospects.
  • Attend monthly GAB conference calls with all of the other editors.
  • During each call, the Development Intern should expect to report research on development of GAB to the editorial board.
  • Self-evaluate progress through regularly tracking and reporting of work hours.
  • Also: while this is not an editorial/writing position, there is opportunity to submit posts for GAB through the regular editorial process.

Qualifications:

  • Independent, hard-working, organized, and experienced with a background or strong interest in the feminism and women’s rights, international development, and/or fundraising.
  • Excellent writing and communication skills.
  • Knowledge of blogging is not mandatory, but highly recommended.
  • Must commit to six hours per week for six months. Interns may extend their internship beyond six months if performance is excellent.
  • Self-motivated and detail-oriented.
  • Ability to take initiative and work independently.
  • Responsible and reliable.
  • Organized and adept at managing multiple concurrent activities.
  • Must be familiar with global feminist issues; therefore, please be prepared to explain why you’d like to work for a global feminist blog.

Salary:

  • Internship positions are unpaid (in fact, all positions at GAB are unpaid—this is a “side” job that we do).

Apply To:

For consideration, please email a cover letter that includes the dates that you will be available, a current resume, a brief writing sample relating to gender, feminism, and/or international development (2-5 pages), and two references (letters of recommendation are not necessary) to Carrie at carrie@genderacrossborders.com with “Development Application: Winter 2011” in the subject line. The deadline for this application is Tuesday, January 4, 2011 by midnight CST.

Feel free to post this listing at other sites.
