Reminder: Write about hip-hop, feminism, and resistance for GAB!

Gender Across Borders (http://genderacrossborders.com) is planning a series about hip-hop, resistance, and feminism to run February 5 and 6. The deadline for submitting has been extended to January 29.

Hip-hop can be a powerful tool for resisting gender and racial oppression and occupation. Gender Across Borders is seeking articles that tie together an analysis of race and gender with a consideration of the impact of music on social movements. Those with knowledge of music and/or a familiarity with resistance movements in countries that have experienced war or occupation are encouraged to submit. A broad range of material is welcome, from personal narratives to profiles of particular hip-hop artists that focus on how they changed discourse or race and gender to commentary on the connection between hip-hop and resistance. Articles can focus on the United States or on other countries.

Before submitting, please familiarize yourself with Gender Across Borders and the general style and themes that appear on the blog!

To apply, please submit your article (300 – 1500 words) along with a résumé or short summary of interests and experience to Amy at music@genderacrossborders.com by Friday, January 29, 2010. Articles should include relevant links that provide additional information and an image or video to run with the entry. No prior experience with blogging or professional writing is necessary. Anyone with an interest in social movements and music is welcome to contribute.

Decisions will be made by February 1, and all contributors must be available via email February  2-4 to participate in the editing and uploading process. The series will run February 5-6.
